Historical Information

The delightful region from Highfields to Crows Nest (formally Crows Nest Shire and now part of the amalgamated Toowoomba Regional Council) extends along the Great Dividing Range north of Toowoomba.

The well established historic township of Crows Nest (the second largest centre, behind Highfields) is nestled in the ranges astride two creeks.  It boasts the region’s Council Administration Centre, Ambulance Centre, Medical Centre, Nursing Home and Retirement Complex as well as having all retail services, sporting clubs and facilities that one needs.

The earlier pursuits of timber getting, grazing and dairying are now being complemented by developments such as cut flower growing, horticulture and home and farm hosting as well as a burgeoning tourism industry.

The delightful natural mountainous environment gives one the great experience of seasonal changes such as brisk winters and cool mountain air summers and makes Crows Nest a great place to visit but an even better place to live.

If you want to escape the rat race for a day, weekend or much longer, you could join the growing band of people who are discovering the untouched beauty and majesty of the pristine countryside in this district.

The district has been a popular fishing and camping destination for many years.  All areas, including the three lakes, are well appointed for visitors.

The towns in the district are all charming and well worth a visit.
Further tourist and travel information is available at the Hampton Visitor Information Centre, 12kms south of Crows Nest
