For years, Crows Nest has been a town often bypassed by first time campers, families looking for a short getaway or even grey nomads travelling through the region. But with so many amazing and unique things to do in the region, we have compiled a list of 10 exciting things to do. Trust us, you won’t want to bypass this town again.

 

1. Take a hike

Hikes are a great way for people of all ages and experience levels to get out and experience the lush landscapes and unique wildlife that the area has to offer.​
 
Visitors to Crows Nest will be spoilt for choice with a number of hikes and tracks. Why not try Applegum walk? The 1.5km track follows the Crows Nest Creek, winding through colossal trees and is a hit with bird watchers hoping to spot some wildlife. 
 
 

2. Picnic at one of the region’s many breathtaking lookouts

While a picturesque view isn’t hard to find in this beautiful region, they don’t get much better than a visit to the Gus Beutel lookout located 20 mins away from Crows Nest in the Ravensbourne National Park.​
Be sure to bring the picnic basket or enjoy a BBQ in the grassy picnic area.
 
 

3. Take a trip to one of the local dams

Only a short drive from Crows Nest, families and individuals can find a number of dams ideal for boating, picnicking and wildlife spotting. Lake Cressbrook is a popular choice for fishing, rowing and observing wildlife. Check the Toowoomba Regional Council  website for more updates on the availability of these activities prior to arriving. ​
 
 

4. Visit the Crows Nest Falls

​Located within the Crows Nest national Park, the waterfall lookout can be accessed via the 4.5km return Crows Nest Falls Circuit. On the way back, be sure to check out Bottlebrush Pool: a fresh water swimming hole ideal for anyone wishing to cool off. ​
 
 

5. Step Back in Time

Restored by volunteers, the Crows Nest Museum and Historical village allows its visitors to step back in time with interactive displays from time gone by. Spend a day with the family soaking in the history of the region. 
 
 

6. Transport yourself to the Black Forest, Germany

The Black Forest Hill Cuckoo Clock Centre is a short drive to Cabarlah on the New England Highway. The store is one of the largest of its kind in Australia and has been running for 25 years. Be enchanted by hundreds of authentic clocks, souvenirs and folk music.
 
 

7. Mix and Match Flavours

​Bring the kids while you visit one of the oldest surviving soft drink manufacturers in the country at Crows Nest Soft Drinks.  The shop offers visitors the chance to buy their delicious flavoured soft drinks, syrup and cordials. The store even allows you to mix and match syrups as a fun activity for kids.
 
 

8. Try the local Vino

9. Visit the surrounding towns

Only a 20 minute drive from Crows Nest lies Highfields, small town filled with boutiques, cafes and artisan goods. For anyone feeling more adventurous, Toowoomba is only a 40 min drive away from Crows Nest. The Garden city annually hosts its ‘Carnival of Flowers’ festival, lasting a week in September.

Visitors who stay at the Crows Nest Tourist Park have the additional benefit of staying on-site to enjoy the numerous things the park itself has to offer. From lazing by the pool, deer spotting, taking a step inside the massive bird aviary, grabbing a bite to eat at the Hidden Gem Cafe or even just walking around the beautiful grassy grounds, there’s something to do for everyone.
